El tiempo vuela // Time flies

**ENGLISH VERSION, DOWN!**

Y porqué digo esto? Porque ya llevo aquí nada más y nada menos que tres meses.
Y lo mejor de todo, me siento realmente adaptado a la ciudad. Obviamente hay cosas que no comprendo, pero me gusta sentirme un poco extraño!
Cada día conozco lugares nuevos, llenos de encanto. Y es que si algo tiene esta ciudad, son pequeños cafés repartidos por la ciudad, escondidos de los turistas, y con una buena dosis de encanto en su interior (y en sus terrazas!).

Este mes he estado bastante ocupado, han llegado los erasmus y he estado recibiendo a algunos en mi casa, recogiéndolos en el aeropuerto, ayudándoles a buscar piso, enseñandoles la ciudad...
La verdad que necesitaba un poco conocer a un buen puñado de gente "nueva", con diferentes inquietudes y con muchas ganas de empezar una aventura como es el erasmus.

Lo mejor de todo? He comprobado que tras 3 meses viviendo aquí, soy capaz de entender el rumano y hablarlo (obviamente, no en su totalidad, aun ando escaso de vocabulario...), hasta el punto que mantuve una conversación enteramente en rumano, por teléfono, con una persona que no conocía (y por lo tanto, no estaba habituado a su voz/acento). Después de esta conversación realmente sentí que estoy aprendiendo mucho más de lo esperado, y me siento muy orgulloso de mi mismo. Nunca pensé que sería capaz de hablar y/o entender el rumano en tan sólo 3 meses!
Esta experiencia me ha hecho esforzarme más por aprender el rumano. Vale, es un idioma que probablemente no me vaya a aportar nada en el futuro, pero quien sabe? La vida da muchas vueltas.

Aquí el otoño casi que ha pasado de largo, ya hemos llegado a temperaturas de 2ºC. Me comentan que no es lo habitual en estas fechas, que es simplemente una mala racha... Pero bueno, lo cierto es que pronto volverán a bajar las temperaturas, y aquí yo ya voy con abrigo y bufanda, a principios de octubre! Una locura!

Os voy a dejar algunas imagenes que he tomado por la ciudad, pero aun no he salido un dia "en serio"!! Muy mal, lo se!

**ENGLISH VERSION**

And why I say this? Because I've been here three months!
I feel really adapted to the city. Obviously there are things that i don't understand, but I like to feel a little bit stranger here!
Everyday i meet new places, full of charm. This city is full of small cafes, hidden from the tourists, and very charming.

This month i've been busy, erasmus just have arrived and have hosted some in my house, picked them up at the airport, helping them to look for apartments, showing the city ...

Best of all? I realised that after 3 months living here, i can understand and speak Romanian (obviously novery fluently, because of my limited vocabulary... ), some days ago i had a conversation entirely in Romanian, by phone, with a person who did not know (and therefore was not used to his voice/accent). After this conversation i really felt I 'm learning more than expected, and I am very proud of myself. I never thought I would be able to speak and/or understand Romanian in just 3 months!


Here the fall didn't stop, we've arrived at 2° C. The romanians said that it isn't usual at this time, it's just some days... Well , the truth is that soon the temperatures will drop again, and here I 'm already in coat and scarf, in early October! Crazy!

DOS MESES EN RUMANÍA // TWO MONTHS IN ROMANIA

Sí, dos meses...
Y este ha sido más intenso que el primero, si cabe.
He viajado, he cumplido años, he celebrado, he discutido...

Pero empecemos por el principio.
El día 9 de agosto, Eliise y yo empezamos nuestra primera gran aventura en Rumanía. Empezamos a hacer atutostop. Fue increíble ver como los coches nos paraban sin pedir nada a cambio, y tras 9 horas y un accidente de coche (si...), llegamos a Arad (al norte de Rumanía, cerca de la frontera con Serbia y Hungría)!
Fueron como 9 horas de viaje, pero mereció la pena.
Allí pasamos 4 dias rodeados de voluntarios, visitamos Timisoara, una ciudad preciosa, aunque que nos pareció un poco aburrida.
Después del pasar el día en Timisoara, volvimos a Arad, y celebramos mi cumpleaños rodeados de muchos voluntarios! (y Eliise me preparó una tarta un tanto especial: chocolate, plátano, melocotón, yogur natural y bizcocho!). El caso es que la fiesta fué divertidísima, y fue un auténtico placer poder celebrar mi aniversario allí, rodeado de tan buena gente.

Y después, qué pasó después?
Pues decidimos ir hasta Belgrado! Esta parte del viaje fue la más complicada, ya que en Serbia nos costó mucho que nos cogieran los coches, pero poco a poco, aldea tras aldea, alcanzamos Belgrado. Por fin, uno de mis sueños cumplidos!!
Sin duda alguna, ésta fue la mejor parte del viaje. Belgrado es una ciudad maravillosa, y para ser una capital se respira cierta tranquilidad que me encantó. Y cómo no, atravesar el impresionante río Danubio, y tomar una cerveza desde lo más alto de la fortaleza observando el río en plena noche, mientras oíamos la música proviniente del BeerFest.
Belgrado es una ciudad mágica, y espero poder volver pronto, con más calma.
Allí me reencontré con viejos amigos, y nuevos conocidos. Hicimos amigos, y soñé con vivir allí (porque sí, es una ciudad que me ha enamorado!).

Tras dos días, empezamos el viaje de vuelta a Bucarest. Fue un viaje un tanto... largo, vamos a decir largo. Aunque sólo tuvimos que coger tres coches para llegar hasta casa, si tenemos en cuenta que uno era una caravana, con una familia hungaro-rumana que se chillaban por todo, y que además, conducian a 70/80 kms/hora...

Y una vez en casa, aun con el cansancio en el cuerpo.. celebré de nuevo mi aniversario, ésta vez con los que me rodean cada día.
La idea inicial era una fiesta de temática Rocky Horror... pero al final se nos fue de las manos, y se convirtió en una fiesta travesti, así, sin más. La verdad que fue una fiesta épica, y que quedará en el recuerdo de todos mis invitados.

Y para finalizar el mes... un viaje inesperado a Bulgaria, donde visité Plovdiv i Veliko Tarnovo, ambas ciudades me parecieron preciosas, pero personalmente me quedo con Plovdid y su casco antiguo.

Como veis, ha sido un mes agitado!!

Yes , two months ...
And this has been more intense than the first , if it's possible.
I traveled, I celebrated my birthday, I had discussions ...

But let's start fom the beggining!
On August 9 , Eliise and I started our first big adventure in Romania. We did atutostop for first time. It was incredible to see how the cars stopped us without asking anything in return , and after 9 hours and a car accident ( yeah. ..) , we arrived to Arad (north of Romania , near the border with Serbia and Hungary ) !
We spent four days surrounded by volunteers, also we visited Timisoara, it's a beautiful city, but we found it a bit boring .

After spending the day in Timisoara , we came back Arad and celebrated my birthday surrounded by many volunteers! ( and eliise prepared a special cake chocolate, banana, peach , and yogurt!) . Anyway, the party was hilarious , and it was a real pleasure to celebrate my birthday there, surrounded by such good people .

And then what happened?
Well we decided to go to Belgrade! This part of the trip was the most complicated, because in Serbia was a little bit complicated to take cars, but step by step, village after village, we reached Belgrade. Finally, one of my dreams come true!

Without any doubt, this was the best part of the trip . Belgrade is a wonderful city! And it's impressive to cross the River Danube, and grab a beer from the top of the fort watching the river at night , as we heard the music from BeerFest.
Belgrade is a magical city, and hope to return soon, with more time to visit the city and enjoy.

There i reconnected with old friends, and new acquaintances. We made new friends, and dreamed of living there (because yes, it's a city I 've fallen in love!) .

After two days, we started to back to Bucharest. Travel was... Long, yes. We take only three cars to get home, if we consider that one was a caravan, a Hungarian-Romanian family who were screaming for everything, and the velocity was70/80 km/hour...

Once at home, even with fatigue in the body... i celebrated my birthday again, this time with those around me every day.
The initial idea was a Rocky Horror themed party... but eventually became a transvestite party. It was an epic party, and that will remain in the memory of all my guests .

And to end the month ... an unexpected trip to Bulgaria where i visited Plovdiv and Veliko Tarnovo, both cities seemed lovely, but personally i prefer Plovdiv and its old town.

As you see, has been a hectic month !

22 años

Cumplir años en otro país, una experiencia más que me ha aportado el EVS.
No es fácil estar aquí sin tu familia y amigos, y menos en un día tan especial como es tu cumpleaños. Lo pase mal, y me acordé de todos ellos y lo mucho que me gustaría estar de nuevo en casa, comiendo tarta con mis amigos, o saliendo a los sitios de siempre... Este año mas que nunca he agradecido cada felicitación, porque me hacia sentir mas cerca de mi gente.
Pero por suerte estuve bien rodeado en Arad, con un montón de voluntarios! Celebramos una fiesta el domingo por la noche, me reencontré con muchos voluntarios que conocí en Predeal, y pasamos una muy buena noche todos juntos!

PRIMER MES // FIRST MONTH

ENGLISH VERSION, DOWN!

Hoy hace un mes que llegué a Bucarest. La verdad que tengo la sensación de que ha pasado mucho más tiempo, pero no, sólo un mes.

Las primeras semanas han sido un poco caóticas. Aun no hemos empezado a trabajar como tal, ya que tenemos la oficina (maravillosa!) desde hace sólo una semana, no tenemos internet en casa (lo que, al menos para mi, es un problema, ya que también me he quedado sin teléfono y internet es la única forma de comunicarme con los míos...), al principio la convivencia es un poco difícil, ya que no conoces el carácter de los demás, pero poco a poco nos vamos conociendo mejor, y la verdad que Elise y Luigi ya se han convertido en buenos amigos para mi.

Cómo es Bucarest? Es una ciudad a medio hacer, por todos lados se observan desperfectos fácilmente solucionables, pero que aquí parece no importarles. Miles y miles de cables cuelgan por todos lados, es su seña de identidad. 

Los servicios de transporte son excelentes y variados (metro, bus, tram, trolebús y bus nocturno), cubren una grandísima parte de la ciudad y además cuentan con muy buenos horarios y mejores precios. 
Los precios del supermercado, son los mismos que españa, aproximadamente. Algunas cosas un poco más caras, y otras un poco más baratas, pero al final la lista de la compra viene a ser igual (aunque también depende del supermercado donde compres). 

Por otra parte, Bucarest cuenta con una amplia diversidad cultural y de ocio, al menos en verano es frecuente encontrar festivales todas las semanas, al aire libre,  con acceso gratuïto. Y además hay muchos museos a un precio muy económico, más aun si eres estudiante. 

Además, si te gusta la arquitectura, Bucarest tiene una gran variedad de estilos arquitectónicos, a cada cual más impresionante. Aunque también hay muchísimas casas abandonadas o medio en ruinas  Y es una pena que algunos edificios impresionantes se dejen en un estado tan lamentable. Me han contado que en parte se debe a la burocracia tan lenta que hay en este país. Para restaurar una casa hay que pedir muchos permisos, que tardan mucho tiempo, y además, cuesta muchísimo dinero la restauración, por lo que mucha gente no se lo puede permitir y acaban dejando las casas en ruinas.

Otra cosa que me llama mucho la atención de la ciudad, es los miles de puestos que venden covrig, una especie de pretzel alemán. Estos puestos los puedes encontrar en todos lados, incluso en las estaciones de metro. Es el aperitivo favorito de los rumanos! Normalmente, aquí los trabajadores no tienen un tiempo para comer, como en españa u otros países. Disponen sólo de un pequeño tiempo (10-20 minutos) para comer alguna cosa y descansar, entonces aprovechan estos descansos para comerse un covrig (o dos!) y matar un poco el hambre. Lo mejor de los covrig es su precio y su variedad, aunque normalmente cuestan 2.5 RON, en algunos sitios cuestan 1 RON o 3 RON. Los hay con sal y semillas de amapola, rellenos de cereza, de chocolate, de queso y como no, sin relleno.

En definitiva, estoy empezando a entender la ciudad y su gente, y aunque dista mucho de ser la ciudad de mis sueños, estoy contento de estar aquí y de estar viviendo esta aventura con mis nuevos amigos/familia!
Me he extendido más de lo que quería, pero mi primer mes se merecía un analisis más profundo.

A month ago, some day ike today (29h) I arrived in Bucharest. The truth is that I have the feeling that much more time has passed, but no, just a month.

The first few weeks have been a bit chaotic. We have not begun to work as such, because we have the office (amazing!) from only a week ago, do not have Internet at home (which, at least for me, is a problem because I've also been without phone and internet is the only way to communicate with my friends and family...), at first cohabitation is a little difficult because you do not know the character of others, but little by little we get to know better, and the truth that Elise and Luigi and have become good friends to me.

How is Bucharest? It is a city half done...  everywhere is full of easily solvable damage, but here seem not to care. Thousands and thousands of cables hanging everywhere, is its hallmark.

Transport services are excellent and varied (metro, bus, tram, trolleybus and bus night), cover a very large part of the city and also have very good schedules and better prices.

Supermarket prices are the same as Spain, approximately. Some things a bit more expensive, and sometimes a little cheaper, but the final shopping list becomes equal to (but also depends on the supermarket where you buy).

Moreover, Bucharest has a wide cultural and leisure activities, at least in summer is common to find festivals every week, outdoors, with free access. And there are many museums to a very affordable price, even more if you are a student.

Also, if you like architecture, Bucharest has a variety of architectural styles. Although there are many abandoned houses or half in ruins. It is a shame that some impressive buildings left in such a sorry state. Someone told me that is in part because so slow bureaucracy in this country. To restore a house you have to ask lots of permits, which take a long time, and in addition, restoration costs big money, so not many people can afford it and end up leaving the house in ruins.

Another thing that attracts the attention of the city, is the thousands stalls selling covrigi, a kind of German pretzel. You can find them everywhere, even in the subway stations. It is the favorite snack of Romanians! Normally, workers here have no time to eat, as in Spain or other countries. Have only a little time (10-20 minutes) to eat something and rest, then use these breaks to eat a covrigi (or two!). The best thing is its price covrigi and variety, but usually cost 2.5 RON, on some sites cost or 3 RON 1 RON. They come with salt and poppy seeds, stuffed with cherry, chocolate, cheese and of course, no padding.

In conclusion, I am beginning to understand the city and its people, and although far from the city of my dreams, I'm happy to be here and to be living this adventure with my new friends / family!

13 DIAS // 13 DAYS

ENGLISH VERSION, DOWN. 

Ya han pasado 13 días desde que llegué y ya me voy haciendo una idea de como funcionan las cosas aquí.
Ya estamos todos los compañeros del piso juntos, Eliise, Luigi, Ekrem i Yusuf/Joseph, así que ahora ya empieza, definitivamente, nuestro voluntariado.
Ya tenemos cuenta bancaria aquí, tarjeta sim rumana (con una tarifa increíble, dicho sea de paso!).

Aun me cuesta no pensar en euros, se me hace raro ir a las tiendas y ver que un vaquero cuesta sobre unos 80/90 leis.
A que parece muchísimo? Pues son unos 20 euros, aproximadamente. Pues esto me pasa cuando voy a la compra! Veo una bandeja de carne en el súper, 20 lei. Y pienso en euros, y me escandalizo de lo caro que es... pero no llega ni a 5€!!
Pues así con los precios en general.

Luego, curiosidades? LOS BILLETES! Es una de las cosas más raras que he visto nunca, están hechos de plástico, pero literalmente! Los puedes mojar y arrugar, que no les pasa nada! Además, el valor de los billetes es ridículo! Tienen billetes de 1 lei (0.20€), 5 lei (1.10€), 10 lei (2.20€), 50 (11.30€) y 100 (22.7€). También hay de 200 y 500, creo, pero aun no los he visto. Lo curioso, que sacas 150 lei y llevas la cartera a reventar... pero solo llevas 35 euros!!
También tienen monedas, no os vayáis a pensar que no... pero eso que tiene un valor de risa. Monedas de 50 bani, 10 bani, 5 bani y 1 bani. Su valor? 0.11 cents, 0.02 cents, 0.01 cents y.. cero? Su valor es tan ínfimo que muchos bancos ni siquiera las expiden, y en muchos bares/restaurantes no se permite pagar con ellos. De hecho, si el cambio es de un leu o inferior, no te lo suelen devolver (o quizás es que a mi me timan...)

Más curiosidades? Los taxis! Son tremendamente baratos! Tienen una tarifa establecida de 1.39lei/kms. Estamos hablando de unos 0.30 cents/km. Además la bajada de bandera cuenta como un km, es decir, 1.39 lei. Un viaje de unos 6 kms, desde Piata Unirii (centro de la ciudad), hasta mi barrio, me cuesta alrededor de 10 lei (2.2€).

El transporte en general también es MUY barato. El abono mensual, para todas las lineas de la ciudad (metro, tram, bus y trolebús), cuesta 50 lei (11.5€), y si eres estudiante, 25 lei (menos de 7 euros).

Bueno, por hoy esto es todo! Pronto subiré algún vídeo contando cositas!

13 days since i arrived to Bucharest, and now i'm getting a idea of how the things works here.

Finally, all the flatmates are together, Eliise, Luigi, Ekrem and Joseph/Yusuf, so now begins definitely our volunteering!

We get a bank account here and a romanian sim card (with an INCREDIBLE rate!)

Actually, is getting hard for me not think in euros, it's strange to to the stores and se that trousers cost 80/90 lei... 

Seems so much, truth? As they are about 20€!

For example, i want to buy meat. 20 lei. WOW, SO EXPENSIVE!!! After that shock, i think in euros.. and it's just 5€!

More curiosities? The NOTES! It's one of the weirdest thing i've ever seen, are made by plastic, literally.

You can wet them, and nothing happens, it's very useful! haha

Moreovert, the value of the notes is ridiculous!

They have notes of 1 lei (€ 0.20), 5 lei (€ 1.10), 10 lei (€ 2.20) 50 (11.30 €) and 100 (22.7 €). There are also 200 and 500, I think, but I have not seen yet. 

It's funny when you get 150 lei and your wallet is almost exploding, so full of notes... but you just have 35€!

They also have coins... but this value is almost inexistent! Coins of 50 bani, 10 bani, 5 bani, 1 bani. Its value? 0.11 cents, 0.02 cents, 0.01 cents and .. zero? Its value is very negligible that many banks don't expedite them, and in many bars/restaurants you're not allowed to pay with the coins!

More curiosities? Taxis! They're very extremely cheap! The rate is 1.39lei/km (about 30 cents/km. For example, take the bus from Piata Unirii (centre of the city) to my house (around 6 kms), cost around 10 lei (like 2.2€!!).

Also the public transport is very cheap, the mensual subscription for all lines of the city (metro, tram, bus and trolley) costs 50 lei (€ 11.5), and if you are a student, 25 lei (less than 7 euros).

EMPIEZA NUESTRA NUEVA VIDA // OUR NEW LIVE IS STARTING

Finalmente, ya estoy aquí, estoy en Bucarest!!!

Llegué hace dos días, en mitad de la noche, llovía. La verdad que el tiempo no era nada alentador, pero Silvia, de mi organización, vino a recogerme al aeropuerto y me llevó hasta la casa de unos voluntarios españoles (Gracias Julián y Maria por acogerme!) donde pasé mis dos primeras noches.

Ayer, por fin, salí a ver la ciudad, ya hace buena temperatura aquí. Me sorprendió muchísimo, para bien. Es una ciudad preciosa, con muchísimos parques, jardines y zonas verdes.

La parte "negativa"? Las calles están en bastante mal estado, se nota que son muy antiguas y no han dedicado mucho dinero en hacerlas de nuevo. Además, esto está lleno de perros callejeros, pero LLENO. Es increíble.

Las primeras impresiones son muy buenas, la gente agradable y los edificios bonitos pero muy descuidados.

Además, ya he llegado a mi piso. Es grande luminoso, antiguo pero recién reformado, dos baños amplios y una cocina y un salón muy grandes. No puedo estar más contento! Me faltan muchas cosas aun, utensilios de cocina, perchas, cosas para limpiar.. pero poco a poco.

Finally i'm here, in Bucharest!
I arrived two days ago, in the middle of the night, was raining. The truth, the weather was horrible, but Silvia, from my organization, came to the airport to pick me up and  she took me to the house of some spanish volunteers (Thanks Julian and Maria for hosting me!) where i spent the first two nights.

Yesterday, finally, i went to see the city, the temperature was very good :)
I was very surprised, for good reasons, about the city. Its a beautiful city, with a lot of parks, gardens and green areas.

The "negative" part? The streets are in pretty bad shape, that shows that they are very old, and haven't spent much money on them again... 
Also, it's full of wild dogs, but FULL... incredible.

First impressions are very good, nice people and nice buildings but very sloppy...

Besides, finally i'm on my floor! It's quite old, but renovated, two bathrooms, spacious kitchen and large living room. I can't be happier!! We still lack many things, cooking utensils, hangers, things for clean...

13 DIAS + VIDEOBLOG // 13 DAYS AND VIDEOBLOG

Hola!! Faltan SOLO 13 días para mi partida hacia rumania, y ahora ya estoy nervioso! Por una parte quiero que llegue el día, y por otra... deseo que estos 13 días se hagan eternos! 
Aun tengo muchísimas cosas por hacer, y no soy consciente de he de organizarme muy bien estos 13 días para poder hacer todo.

Por otra parte, ayer fue mi despedida (una de ellas jaja) y lloré como un tonto! Cómo voy a echar de menos a mi gente. Me dijeron cosas preciosas que no se me olvidarán jamás. GRACIAS <3

Y por último, aquí os dejo el primer video de mi nuevo videoblog. Este videoblog lo dedicaré a hablar de Rumanía, a enseñaros cositas, y funcionará como un complemento a este blog.

HEY!!! Just 13 days to go to Romania, and now i'm very very nervous!!

In one hand, i want to leave right now, but in other hand, i want those days are eternal to do everything!

I have a lot of things to do before my departure, i should organize this 13 days to see everybody and do everything!

Yesterday was my farewell (well, one of them hahah) and i cried like a baby! I'm gonna  miss so much my people!! They told me very beautiful words, that i never will forget it! THANKS <3

CUENTA ATRÁS // COUNTDOWN

Finalmente, ya tengo el billete de avión (sólo ida) para Bucarest. Me voy el día 29 de junio, quedan menos de dos meses para irme y aun tengo que arreglar algunos papeles por aquí, comprar algunas cosas, empezar a aprender un poco de rumano, despedirme de la gente...

Ahora ya no hay vuelta atrás, ME VOY!

También he conocido a mis compañeros de piso y de voluntariado, se llaman Luigi e Eliise (de Italia y de Estonia, respectivamente).

Luigi estudia economía, es de Nápoles, y tiene 23 años. Eliise estudia filología estona (estona? estonesa?) y tiene también 23 años.

Finally, i've got the plane ticket (one way!). I'll travel on 29th of june, less than two months to leave and i still have to do some burocracy, say goodbye to family and friends, buy new things, start to learn romanian...

Now, there is no turning back, i'm going!

Also i've met my new volunteer and flat mates, Luigi, from italy, and Eliise, from Estonia.

Luigi is studying economics, is from Napoly, and he's 23 years old. Eliise is studying estonian philology, she is from Tartumaa and she's 23 too.

HE SIDO SELECCIONADO // I'VE BEEN SELECTED

(ENGLISH VERSION AT FINAL)


Aun no he asimilado que me han seleccionado para hacer mi EVS (servicio de voluntariado europeo) en Bucharest, Rumanía.
El día 1 de julio empiezo mi nueva vida allí, y ahora en mi cabeza tengo miles de preguntas y inseguridades.

He decidido crear este blog para ir narrando mi vida en Rumanía, así mis familiares y amigos pueden estar al día de lo que voy haciendo :D

Aun falta mucho para irme, pero ya estoy pensando en lo que he de comprarme (ropa de abrigo! he visto que allí el invierno alcanza fácilmente los -10ºC!!!)

Así que, bienvenidos, nos leemos pronto.

I don't assimilated yet that i've been selected to do my EVS in Bucharest, Romania.

1st of July i'll start my new life there, and now in my head i've a lot of questions and insecurities.

I decided to create this blog to show to my family and friends how's going on my life in Romania... and also, i don't need to talk about the same history twice :P

My departure is very far, but i'm thinking in what i've to buy before leaving (warm clothes! because the winter there is like -10 degrees!!!)
